在日本，要當個御宅族，可不簡單。為了在日常生活中隱藏真正身份，言談、舉止都得非常小心。想認識動漫畫同好，就只有透過互聯網這渠道。不想被當作隱閉青年，有些人會選擇主動走出來，加入同好會，希望在這個短暫的安樂窩中，找到一絲心靈上的安慰。漫畫《現視研》的故事，正是描述這樣的一個學會。
“現視研”全名“現代視覺文化研究會”，是個以研究動漫畫和遊戲為主的大學社團。這大學名為“椎應大學”，應該就是在惡搞現實當中，日本御宅族的發源地——慶應大學吧。平凡的主角笹原入學時，跟資深御宅族兼美少年高坂同時加入現視研，不幸地，還有一位死纏高坂的“一般人”(指對動漫文化毫無興趣的普通人)春日部，硬要“插隻腳”進來。這三個生力軍，就為死氣沉沉的社團，帶來了意想不到的驚喜和危機。
故事開始就將重心放在“人事鬥爭”上。春日部是潮流人，對御宅族文化毫不理解，兩者之間出現的文化差異，造成不少爆笑和難堪的場面。後來在面對學生會會長下令要把會社解散的危機，眾人才驚覺，原來大家一天到晚都是窩在會室看動漫談天，幾乎沒辦過任何活動，幸而會社最後都逃過一劫。
後來多了兩個女會員入社，這時筆鋒一轉，青澀的愛情線隨即展開。從海外歸來的Cosplayer狂熱者大野，跟社內擅長造Cosplay衣服的田中一拍即合。而這時看起來終於有點主角模樣的笹原，發現自己的心已被腐女子狄上（指喜歡BL漫畫的女孩）俘虜。笹原能否把對方的心結打開，來個happy ending，就留待讀者自己看了。
若然你曾參加過學校的會社，當過幹事，看這漫畫時，又會多一層樂趣，多一分共鳴。畢竟每個社團，都有差不多的發展史，當中大家經歷過的挫折、一班朋友吃喝玩樂、危急時共同奮戰的時光，到最後依依不捨把辛苦經營的會社交給下一任接手，在《現視研》中，你可以見證到這班年青人的成長歷程。
《現視研》漫畫共九期(東立出版)，而第二輯的動畫版，將於今秋在日本播出，相信此時又會掀起新一輪“現視研熱潮”了。
